Colleagues & Competitors’ Links

After 35 years in the business, I've come to greatly value some of my colleagues' and competitors' stock market opinions and insights.  We discuss (and debate )each others' recommendations with a critical eye toward finding the very best companies and keeping the competitive spirit alive. Every one of these people are Class Acts in the areas of money and markets.
If they have a website, I've included the link to it. If not, I've given their e-address. If you tell them you read about them here, they may give you a sample copy of their work.

With best regards,
Joseph L. Shaefer

Bob Howard has been in the investment business more than 25 years, beginning as a broker who specialized in working with money managers and as a Block Trader at Shearson and Prudential.

Bob also worked at Acceptance Insurance as a portfolio manager during the late 80's and early 90's and was also special assistant to the CEO.  During this time he participated in 4 key mergers. He knows the business - from the "inside" out.
       Bob started his own newsletter,
Positive Patterns, in 1992. The letter is primarily read by Stock Brokers and Money Managers, and covers individual stocks in depth...with the long haul in mind. Bob believes that the best track records are built by those with patience who under-trade. He looks for companies that dominate their fields, preferably with a good moat around it.

Bob and I regularly trade ideas on great companies. Nobody  has a better handle on the "Dominator" companies in the best industries for the long-term.

If you mention that you saw Positive Patterns on this website, Bob will either send you a recent copy, or give you a great deal on a trial subscription. If he sends one for free, it may not be the current copy but, then, how many advisors do you know who pour their heart and soul into their investment letter, provide 30 pages in each issue, and still make time to give you frequent e-mail updates? Contact Bob at positivepatterns@prodigy.net.

VIVIAN LEWIS — GLOBAL INVESTING

Vivian Lewis is the most knowledgeable advisor I know in the field of international investing -- bar none. She provides daily market commentary most days at her online publication Global Investing, on the RightSide Advisors platform.

Vivian discusses ADRs as well as ordinary shares in scores of emerging and developed nations worldwide.

As Vivian says about her approach, "If you could track global economic conditions — and have inside information about the best investments to put your money into — you could beat the cycles and keep growing your money! There's a word for this: diversification! Only in this case, I'm not talking just about diversifying into various types of instruments (stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and so on) or just into different industry sectors. I'm talking about diversifying across whole economies across the world.

"It's really the soundest diversification strategy of all, as my readers have learned over the years by developing nice fat nest eggs based on our model portfolios and our clear buy-sell-hold recommendations.  Over the years, we've built up an unbeatable set of portfolios of international stocks, bonds, ADRs (American Depositary Receipts), exchange-traded funds, and closed-end funds that, on the average, have doubled in value every three years since the early 1990s."

Vivian and I regularly engage in spirited discussion (OK, debate) on the merits of each others macro views and geopolitical recommendations.  To see more information about Vivian’s service, click on Global Investing or Global Investing Pro.
